The two novel conjugated polymers based on benzo dithiophene (BDT) and fluorinated Quinoxaline (Qx) were designed and synthesized for use in bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSCs). The two conjugated polymers (PBDT-DT-DFQx and PBDT-DT-FQx) used either mono- or di- fluorinated Qx as electron deficient unit. The Qx unit is growing in its popularity thanks to its structure similarity with BT, which is strong electron deficient unit, and enhanced solubility compared with BT. We also introduced thiophene unit as molecular spacer to improve conjugation length. These polymers were observed an optical bandgap of 1.97–2.00eV, with highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy around -5.50 eV and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy around -3.54eV. All the conjugated polymers showed strong absorption in the range of 400-650nm in film state. As a result, high 5.58% of power conversion efficiency (PCE) was achieved with PBDT-DT-DFQx. |
