MERS-coV has continued to spread and still be the threat to human. Even though it has high fatality, there is currently no effective anti-viral treatment for MERS-coV infections. Therefore, rapid and accurate on-site diagnosis is essential to prevent spreading of the virus. In this study, cell-free, paper-based RNA toehold switch sensor is used to detect the MERS-coV. Because the color change by interaction between toehold switch sensor and MERS-coV can be seen with the naked eye and toehold switch sensor and reagents can be freeze-dried on the paper, it does not require any special detector or cold chain. Therefore, it is expected that this molecular diagnosis can substitute the existing diagnostic assays such as real time RT-PCR, rapid antigen test because of its accuracy and convenience to use in the field. |
