Tetracycline removal from aqueous media by combined Advanced Oxidation Process and Biological treatment |

Advanced oxidation process (AOP) is highly competitive water treatment for the reduction of recalcitrant organic pollutants by untilizing hydroxyl radicals. In this study, we investigated the degradation of Tetracycline antibiotics which are widely used pharmaceuticals in human and veterinary medicine during AOP through four parameters: absorbance (ABS), total organic carbon (TOC), biotoxicity with Escherichia coli (E.coli) and Vibrio fischeri (V.fischeri), BOD5/COD ratio. Chemical oxidation for complete mineralization is generally expensive however; it is reasonable for pre-oxidation to be as short as possible and remove the biodegradable portion by cost-effective and environmentally friendly biological processes. |
