Converting CO2 to carbon-containing fuel is a promising and a direct way to reduce global CO2 emission. Many transition metals are useful as catalyst for the conversion of CO2 to CO or further reduced products. Mostly, single metal catalyst is applied to the conversion reaction. However, it has been known that the conversion efficiency and the product selectivity could not meet the requirement yet. In this study, we introduce a low-temperature electrochemical reduction of CO2 to such hydrogen carbon fuels as carbon monoxide, formic acid by using transition metal alloy catalysts. The electrolysis-cell was developed, based on the technology very close to the proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer. |
