We synthesized transition metal hydroxide (Ni(OH)2 and LDH(Layered double hydroxide) nanoplates in an aqueous solution. These nanoplates have a plate shape with 45 nm, 50-100 nm size for Ni(OH)2 and LDH, respectively from the scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and the transmission electron microscopy(TEM) images. Also, we checked the main growth direction of Ni(OH)2 and Co(OH)2 by using the X-Ray diffraction(XRD) results. In addition, we could synthesize platinum/transition metal hydroxide hybrid nanostructures (Pt/Ni(OH)2 and Pt/LDH) in an aqueous solution. The TEM studies of the hybrid nanostructures revealed that a number of 3 nm-sized Pt nanoparticles were well dispersed on the surface of each metal hydroxide nanoplate. We measured the zeta potential values of Ni(OH)2 to demonstrate the growth mechanism of Pt nanoparticles on the surface of Ni(OH)2. The hybrid nanostructures exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic properties due to synergetic effect of metal hydroxide and Pt. |
