Metal–organic framework-derived electrocatalysts for overall water splitting in alkaline solution |

Transition-metal phosphide (TMP) nanostructures have been extensively been explored for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The phase and interface controlled synthesis of electrocatalysts remains a challenge and their use in electrochemical water splitting is not systematically studied. Herein, a 3D layered hydroxide structure was used as a base for the secondary growth of Co-based MOF structure followed by phosphidation. The derived catalyst demonstrates excellent electrocatalytic activity with long-term stability. Furthermore, a two-electrode electrolyser system constructed with the catalyst requires only 1.54V potential to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm2 under alkaline condition. |
