제목 | Novel Thermosenstive Poly(NDPPA-co-NIPAM)s and Their Sol-Gel Phase Transiton Behaviors |
초록 | Introduction Recently polymer and organic gels have received much attention becauseof their unique properties indicating sol-gel or volume phase transition behavior by external stimuli such as pH, temperature, ionic strength, electric field, etc. 1-2 Among them, thermo-responsive polymer gels derived from biodegradable triblock copolymers and N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) based polymers have been extensively studied due to their various biomedical applications. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of novel poly(N-substituted acrylamides) and their temperature-dependent sol-gel transition behavior in an aromatic solvent. Experimental As a new N-substituted acrylamide monomer, we prepared m-NDPPA and p-NDPPA, which are shown in Figure 1.3 Results and Discussion The monomers were polymerized with a radical initiator to produce corresponding homo- and co-polymers with NIPAM. Weight average molecular weights of the polymers were in the range of 11,000 ~ 27,000. DSC and TGA measurements confirmed that the polymers had excellent thermal properties. In addition, sol-gel phase transition behavior and upper critical solution temperature (UCST) were measured by a vial tilting method and a dynamic light scattering, respectively. As a result, all the homopoly(N-substituted acrylamides) and the corresponding copolymers with NIPAM showed a thermo-reversible sol-gel phase transition phenomenon between 65 ~ -2 ℃ in an aromatic solvent such as benzene or toluene. Figure 2 exhibits a representative phase transition behavior for the homopoly(NDPPA) and copoly(NDPPA/NIPAM) with different composition ratio. The phase transition temperature was dependent not only on the composition ratio of NDPPA in the copolymer but also on the kind of solvent. Figure 1.
