To use the Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) as alternative analysis and detection tool, an efficient enhancement technique is needed. Among various approaches for SERS enhancement, electrically modulated SERS substrates can achieve a signal enhancement of over 10 times. However, to achieve such enhancement by electrically modulated SERS substrates, complex setup is required. For this reason, a simple and versatile electrically modulated SERS substrate is needed. Herein, we introduce a novel self-electrically modulated SERS based substrate. This substrate is realized by combining the SERS active structures with electron transfer and an energy conversion system driven by triboelectricity. The SERS signal is enhanced up to 8 times by a simple physical contact between the triboelectric device and a finger, and the detection is carried out in air. Also, we demonstrate the universality of this system with explosives, biomolecules and organic dyes, at trace levels. |
