In this work, two dimensional assembly of network polymers was studied for a new class of crystalline material. Pararosaniline base (PB)-HDI urea network polymer with copper acetate was chosen for a model system. Stoichiometric mixture of PB and HDI in the presence of copper acetate forms urea bond and isocyanurate connected by alkyl chains. Isocyanurate group in polymer network helps flexible polymer chains assemble into two dimensional crystalline phase. In addition, urea and isocyanurate act as a stable ligand for copper complex and induce uniform metal distribution over polymer matrix, which is highly useful for catalytic applications |
