제목 Effect of residual binder to bonding strength of sand mold
초록 In this study, in an attempt to understand the influence of residual binder to mechanical properties of sand mold, characteristics of Regenerated Foundry Sand (RFS) and sand mold containing different proportion of RFS were investigated. Used Foundry sand (UFS) originated from inorganic binder system was reclaimed by wet recycling method which removes binder from sand grains to a degree similar with regular foundry sand. Regular foundry sand was partially replaced with different percentages of RFS by weight. Experimental studies were performed with respect to composition, gradation and surface morphology of RFS and flexural strength of sand mold was also examined.
Although chemical composition and gradation of RFS was analogous with regular foundry sand, flexural strength was decreased with increase of RFS content. From the results of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), chemical species derived from inorganic binder attached on surface or between sand grains and this results indicated that the residual binder remaining on surface or interparticle space negatively affect to bonding strength of sand mold.
