Laser transmission welding of polymers is now used in a very wide rage of industries due to its advantages. If the joining between polypropylene(PP) and polycarbonate(PC) occurs by laser transmission welding, the automotive industry will get a large profit. However, PP/PC have poor miscibility. Consequently, PP and PC need to modify. In this study. PP was modified by grafting of glycidyl methacrylate(GMA). The adhesion strength of PC and PP-g-GMA as a reactive compatibilizer was observed. Modified PP is a laser absorbing material for laser transmission welding of polymers, but polymers are transmitting materials usually. Therefore, PP-g-GMA need laser absorbers. In this study, the carbon black as a laser absorber was added in modified PP. From the results of laser transmission welding, it was confirmed that the carbon black was a effective laser absorber. |
