With ever increasing demand and use of electronic devices in vehicular transportation, the density of electronic systems within a car also increases dramatically. So does electromagnetic emission, which is referred to as electromagnetic interference (EMI). As electromagnetic wave penetrates a conductor, typically insulating materials such as polymer are employed as EMI shielding materials. In order to increase the effectiveness of EMI shielding while decreasing the thickness of the shielding layer, electromagnetic wave should be reflected or absorbed within the shielding layer effectively. As metals are known to reflect electromagnetic wave more efficiently than polymers, but since they are typically too heavy to employ in automotive applications, metal nanoparticle-polymer composites are considered the most promising candidate for EMI shielding materials. In this presentation, recent progress in EMI shielding based on nanoparticle-polymer composites is discussed. |
