In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were treated with nickel by electroless plating method for improving EMI shielding characteristics of MWCNTs. The physical properties of electroless plated MWCNTs were measured by using UHR-SEM, TGA, sheet resistance and EMI shielding performance analysis. EMI shielding efficiency of nickel electroless plated MWCNTs were measured to be 17 dB from 800 MHz band, which were 2.0 times increased compared to that of the activated MWCNTs. Sheet resistance of nickel electroless plated MWCNTs were measured to be 44 Ω/sq, which were 3.6 times decreased compared to that of the activated MWCNTs. This result could be attributed to the plating morphology on the surface of MWCNTs. EMI performance was affected to the uniformity plating film not the amount of plating metal. As a result, EMI shielding efficiency of metal plated MWCNTs was considerably upgraded by nickel plating and uniformity plating film. |
