Recently, contactless shape-morphing manipulation of programmable materials has received great attention. Towards deployable applications, biaxially pre-strained polymer sheets can be employed with light-absorbing patterns for 2D to 3D shape-transformation upon exposure to a NIR (near-infrared) light. When polymer sheets are exposed to NIR light, effectively localized photothermal heating results in programmable shrinkage, operating as a hinge. To date, most studies focused on construction of various 3D geometry of glassy polymers while generation of curvature is desirable to realize more complicated designs. Herein, we discuss a simple strategy for contactless curvature programming of glassy polymer by introduction of simple radial patterns instead of linear hinges. For quantitatively analyze the quality of each pattern. Finally, we will discuss several methods for evaluation of pattern effectiveness. |
