제목 Glass Transition Temperature in Thin Polymer Film
초록 Recently, the surface relaxation behaviors in thin polymer films have been studied by many research groups due to its importance in technology and in science. The large surface-to-volume ratio in the thin film geometry enables us to explore free surface, the role of interface between polymer and substrate. The glass transition temperature of thin polymer film coated on the substrate is found to be dependent on the thickness of thin film and on the interaction between polymer and substrate. Ellipsometry is the main experimental technique for the thickness measurement against temperature near glass transition. The investigated systems are homo polymer, random copolymer and homogeneous polymer blend, coated on Si wafer. We propose the continuous multilayer model for the glass transition profile including both surface and interface effects. On the basis of this model, the general equation to estimate thickness dependence on glass transition in thin films is developed and this equation is applied to various cases of experimental results about glass transition in thin films. The origin for each experimental result will be considered and the factors that can affect the glass transition will be discussed for both coated films and free standing films.
