Nafion is widely used as a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) membrane. But its high methanol permeability lowers fuel efficiency. In order to solve this problem and improve the proton conductivity, this research approached to forming the semi-interpenetrating network (semi-IPN) structure in the blend system of highly sulfonated oligomer with crosslinkable unit and non-sulfonated polysulfone. To contain the crosslinkable unit, acrylate terminal group was introduced to the end of the sulfonated oligomer with 100 mol% sulfonation. And poly ether sulfone copolymer (RH-2000) was used as methanol barrier and mechanical supporter. Additionally, in order to obtain the more enhanced membrane properties, the morphology of this membrane was controlled by varying the drying condition (HT1, HT2, HT3). Morphology, water uptake, proton conductivity and methanol permeability of the semi-IPN membrane were investigated by SEM, AFM, AC impedance spectroscopy and permeability measuring instrument. |
