Hollow Capsules of Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanosheets Prepared by the Layer-by-Layer Deposition on Colloidal Templates |

Graphenes have been highlighted in many research areas, owing to their superior properties such as strong mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, flexibility, and so forth. Among many preparation methods of graphene, the exfoliation of oxidized graphite (i.e., graphene oxide (GO)) allows the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition, which takes advantage of electrostatic interactions among GO sheets. In the present study, by employing the LbL deposition on colloidal templates, we have constructed hollow capsules of reduced graphene oxide nanosheets, which showed robust capsule structure without collapse upon drying and also have systemically investigated the structural characteristics of graphene hollow capsules by varying the lateral size of GO sheets as well as the number of GO layers. Furthermore, we have developed the hybridized system of graphene hollow capsules incorporating functional nano-objects to explore new possibilities in electrochemistry, drug delivery, and catalyst. |
