Nerve Guide Conduit filled with NGF-incorporated Alginate Hydrogel For Effective Peripheral Nerve Regeneraton: Release Behavior of NGF |

Artificial nerve guide conduits (NGCs) to bridge the gap between severed nerve stumps are widely accepted as a useful alternative that creates a favorable microenvironment for axonal regeneration. However, their permeability which should prevent fibrous scar tissue invasion but allow nutrient supply is still remained as a limitation to overcome. To solve these problem, we have fabricated a NGC with the porosity of submicron pore sizes (to prevent fibrous tissue invasion) and hydrophilicity (for effective nutrient permeation) using poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and Pluronic F127. The prepared NGC was investigated for its nerve regeneration ability in our previous study. In this study, we prepared nerve growth factor (NGF) containing alginate-filled NGC for effective nerve regeneration. The prepared NGC was tested for its NGF release behavior. |
