Maleic anhydride and E/MAA copolymer grafted polypropylene samples were prepared in diphenyl solution at 170oC. The films were examined by thermo-mechanical properties, FT-IR, contact angle, adhesion test and oxygen permeability in various MAH and E/MAA copolymer compositions. The transition temperatures of the films remained constant irrespective of MAH and E/MAA copolymer compositions. The appearance of a weak absorption band near 1800 cm-1 was confirmed as the symmetric C=O stretching of anhydride groups grafted on polypropylene with E/MAA copolymer. From the contact angle measurements, it could be confirmed that the grafting of MAH and E/MAA copolymer onto PP made the surface of PP more polar. Through the adhesion test, the value of peeling strength gave the maximum at the MAH 1.25wt% and E/MAA copolymer 0.5 wt%. |
