Biocompatible alginate/iron oxide nanoparticles as MRI contrast enhancing agents |
초록 |
Metal oxide nanoparticles are becoming increasingly important in medicine for MRI contrast enhancement. Alginate/iron oxide nanoparticle as MRI contrasting agents were prepared by the water-in-oil reverse emulsification-diffusion technique. The approximate size of an alginate nanoparticle where a number of iron oxides were localized was 200 nm. The colloidal solution of nanoparticles showed high stability. The magnetization loops of magnetic composite particles showed very slight hysteresis which is so small to be negligible. A fast and significant decreased MRI signal intensity of the liver was detected immediately after injection of the nanoparticles to living rabbits. A series of in vivo experiments have indicated that the alginate/iron oxide nanoparticles shield toxicity of iron oxide. Suggestively, biocompatible alginate/iron oxide nanoparticles are considered as a strong candidate for MRI contrast enhancing agents. |
