Characterization of Waterborne Polyurethane/ Clay Nanocomposite Adhesives Containing Different Amount of Ionic Groups |

A series of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU)/clay nanocomposite dispersions containing different amount of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (DMPA) and clay were synthesized applying sonication. Relationship between the properties of WBPU/clay nanocomposite with various DMPA content and clay concentration has been investigated. Mean particle size and zeta potential of the dispersion were found to be depend on both of DMPA and clay content. The thermal stability and mechanical properties were also dependent on optimum clay concentration which increased with increasing of DMPA content in WBPU/clay nanocomposite. The WBPU/ clay nanocomposite adhesive material which contain high amount of DMPA with optimum clay concentration shows maximum adhesive strength. |
