제목 Comparison of inflammatory response to biodegradable polymers of drug-eluting stents
초록 Biodegradable polymers have been used to develop cardiovascular prostheses such as vascular grafts and stents. However, thrombosis and restenosis that are associated with inflammation are still major obstacle for drug-eluting stents. In addition, several clinical reports demonstrated that some inflammatory markers exhibited relative rise in the first 10 minutes after inserting stent. We examined the expression levels of IL-6, TNF-a and COX2 after treating smooth muscle cell (SMC), endothelial cell (EC), and human leukemic monocyte lymphoma (U937) cell line with the degradation products of various polymers and several drugs to evaluate the inflammation caused by acidic hydrolysates of various biodegradable polymers. Lactic acidseverely induced inflammation and cell death as compared to others. The results demonstrated the feasibility of approaches for the delivery of anti-inflammatory therapeutic agents through medical devices.
