Solution Processed A-D-A Small Molecules Using New Spacers for Organic Solar Cells |

We designed and synthesized two conjugated small molecules (SM-1 and SM-2) in acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) type fashion where benzodithiophene or dithienopyrrolidine as donor and 2,4 thiazolidinedione dye as terminal acceptor respectively with new conjugated spacer. The optoelectronic properties were measured from UV-visible absorption spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. Thermal properties of new small molecules were measured from thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Photovoltaic properties of new small molecules were studied by fabricating conventional bulk heterojunction solar cells and SM-1 delivered a moderate power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.5%. |
