Polynorbornene/Sepiolite hybrid films have been prepared using polynorbornene dicarboximide and modified sepiolite by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-APTES). We synthesized exo-N-(3,5-dichlorophenylnorbornene)-5,6-dicarboxyimide (DCPhNDI) and their copolymers via ring-opening polymerization using ruthenium catalysts. Then surface modified sepiolite by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-APTES) was mixed with the polynorbornene copolymers to prepare hybrid films. The morphology, thermal and mechanical performance and oxygen barrier property of hybrid films were studied with various sepiolite contents. The resultant hybrid films exhibit not only enhanced mechanical properties and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) but also reduced oxygen transmission rate (OTR). In case of Polynorbornene/Sepiolite-16 hybrid films, the tensile strength and modulus were increased by 75% and 60% respectively, decreased in CTE by 37% and decreased in OTR by 66% compared to pure polynorbornene. |
