Biodiesel synthesis from soybean oil over solid acid catalysts |

This study was conducted on heterogeneous acid catalysts for the transesterification of soybean oil aimed at effective production of bio-diesel. Sulfate zirconia catalysts prepared by the solvent-free method were used as catalysts in the methanolysis of soybean oil. The experimental was performed with a number of variables such as reaction time, temperature, methanol and oil ratio, amount of catalysts. and the conversion was obtained according to the content of sulfate. The durability of catalysts was also studied. Sulfated zirconia catalysts were characterized by XRD and FT-IR. The catalyst activity was estimated by GC analyst. The sulfated zirconia catalysts showed considerable activities, indicating that they could be alternatives to homogeneous catalysts. |
