제목 Evaluation of methods to increase biodiesel production by whole cell biocatalyst 
초록 Recently, biological method using enzyme has attracted attention due to its environmentally friendly nature. However, the cost of commercial enzyme and the easy deactivation of the enzyme by methanol are fatal barriers to the enzymatic commercial biodiesel production. As an alternative to enzyme, whole cell microorganisms have been widely used to produce biodiesel. Despite of many advantages, low biodiesel conversion rate and low final biodiesel conversion are still challenging problems. In this study, several methods were evaluated to enhance biodiesel production using whole cells. Whole cells were firstly immobilized onto polyurethane foam and vacuum dried. Chemical treatment, addition of water, and elaborate methanol feeding enhanced biodiesel production while removal of glycerol little influenced biodiesel production. The increase of polyurethane foam in a batch flask improved biodiesel production, but it became decreased when the volume ratio of polyurethane foam to reaction mixture was over a certain level.
