Energy levels, which determine optical and electrochemical properties of organic molecules, are highly affected by the conjugation lengths and the presence of electron withdrawing or donating moieties in the molecules. A star-shaped molecule can have a longer conjugation length compared to its linear analogue. In this study, we synthesized three-armed star-shaped molecules consisting of thiophene units with different conjugation lengths. Arms of each molecule were linked to the benzene core through cyanovinyl groups. The optical and electrochemical properties of the molecules were investigated by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. |
