Synthesis of Novel Low-Bandgap Conjugated Polymers for Photovoltaic Application |

We designed and synthesized novel low-bandgap conjugated copolymers containing alternating electron-donating and electron-accepting subunits. The polymers were synthesized by Stille cross-coupling polymerization. The polymers were characterized using NMR, UV-vis spectrometer and GPC. Band gaps were estimated from UV-vis spectrometer to be around 1.6 eVs. More than 1.5% of power conversion efficiencies were obtained from the preliminary experiment with the photovoltaic devices which comprised with newly synthesized polymer and C70-PCBM. The potential of these low-bandgap polymers as materials for high-efficiency polymer solar cells will be discussed. |
