Preparation and Characterization of ion group functionalized Polyester Diblock Copolymers for In Situ Forming Hydrogel |

MPEG-b-PCL as a thermo-responsive polymer holds great promise in biomedical applications. However, MPEG-b-PCL has not functional group with side chain, and thereby limited to application. Overcome this problem, we introduced ion group in PCL backbone to enhance facilitate a variety of applications. MPEG-b-PCL based block copolymers bearing ion pendant group on the PCL block by ring-opening polymerization. The thermal properties of the block copolymers depend on the functional group on PfCL composition. The derivatized MPEG-b-(PCL-co-PfCL) diblock copolymer solutions exhibited sol-to-gel phase transitions upon a temperature increase. The sol-to-gel phase transition depended on both the type of functional group on the PfCL and the PfCL content in the PCL segment. The surface charge could be change by the identity of the functional pendant group. These results indicate that MPEG-b-(PCL-co-PfCL) diblock copolymers could be used as thermo-responsive in situ forming hydrogel systems. |
