We have rationally designed and synthesized two new bipolar fluorescent emitters AFpPPI and AFmPPI by introducing an electron-donor and electron-acceptor groups through a spacer with different linking topology (para and meta). The photophysical, electrochemical, thermal, charge transport, and electronic distribution of AFpPPI and AFmPPI were investigated and the results are well supported by DFT and semi-classical Marcus theory. Interestingly, AFpPPI and AFmPPI display deep-blue emission with high fluorescence quantum yields. Both molecules possess excellent thermal stability with high glass transition temperatures of 160–175 oC. Furthermore, solution-processed non-doped OLED devices were fabricated with AFpPPI and AFmPPI as an emitter, in which AFpPPI delivered a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 5.76% with a CIE coordinate of (0.15, 0.10) and a maximum current efficiency (CE) of 5.39 cd A−1. |
