Synthesis of Poly(Ionic Liquids) via Interfacial Liquid Plasma Polymerization: Effect of Ethylene Oxide Groups |

Ionic Liquids with or without polymerizable groups can be directly crosslinked via interfacial liquid plasma polymerization with the assistance of ethylene oxide group-containing materials. Ethylene oxide (EO) unit of the Triton X family is critical for the surfactant-assisted polymerization of the ionic liquid-based polymer electrolytes film at the plasma-liquid interface. The relationship between the number of the EO unit and thickness and ionic conductivity of the ionic liquid-based polymer electrolytes were examined. The thickness of the films increased from 1.94 µm to 8.24 µm at the same Triton X molar content of 6% in liquid mixture when the number of the EO unit increased from 9 to 55, respectively. This unit plays a decisive role in the growth in thickness and the increase in ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolyte beside the critical role as a cross-linking agent for the liquid plasma polymerization. |
