Polymer-Functionalized 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Antioxidants |

We have developed a strategy for the simultaneous exfoliation and functionalization of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) nanosheets using polymers in aqueous solution. The hydrophobic and charge interactions between the TMD nanosheets and the polymers were controlled by varying the polymer chemical structures during an exfoliation process, resulting in modulation of the antioxidant activity of the exfoliated TMD nanosheets. The polymer-functionalized TMD nanosheets exhibited superior antioxidant activity and stability as compared with conventional organic antioxidants. In addition, the 2D TMD nanosheets were able to effectively remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) secreted from living cells, and showed outstanding biocompatibility. |
