Perpendicularly Oriented Nanostructures of Star-Shaped PMMA-b-PS Thin Film |

We fabricated star-shaped poly(methyl methacrylate)-block-polystyrene ((PMMA-b-PS)18) thin films having perpendicularly oriented lamellar and hexagonally packed cylindrical structures. Interestingly, these nanostructures were readily obtained by only thermal annealing without additional treatments such as solvent annealing or surface neutralization of substrates. This result is attributed to architecture of employed block copolymers; star-shaped (PMMA-b-PS)18 itself neutralizes the substrates. We also demonstrated the fabrication of perpendicularly oriented nanostructures on various substrates such as metal (Au), semiconductor (Si, SiOx), polymer brushed substrates (polystyrene (PS) or poly(methyl methacrylate (PMMA) brush layers), and polymer flexible substrate (polyethylene naphthalate (PEN)). Irrespective of the substrates, surface neutralization-free perpendicular orientation of nanodomains were formed by simple thermal annealing. |
