Graft polymerization of styrene onto nano alumina particle by radiation |

Grafting polymer onto the surface of inorganic nano particles is a field of growing interests. Several works have been done with respect to improving the dispersibility of these particles in solvents and to their compatibility in polymer matrices. In this study, nano alumina particle was grafted with styrene by radiation grafting technique. An experimental study was made to investigate the effect of surface treatment agents and radiation on grafting of the nano alumina particle. The silane coupling agent was used to introduce reactive group onto alumina surface. The grafting was conducted by the simultaneous grafting technique using γ-rays from cobalt 60. The chemical structure and morphology of the grafted nano alumina particle was investigated by IR and SEM. |
