Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is kind of a bioelectrochemical system that drives a current by bacterial interactions. To achieve high power density of MFC, developing proton exchange membranes (PEM) suitable for MFC will be a key factor because proton conductivity is a rate determining step in electrochemical reactions in MFC. In most studies of MFC, Nafion has been just used by PEM. But Aqueous environment in MFC might provide different conditions unlike other fuel cells driven by hydrogen and methanol. There are no studies about the effect of types ofproton exchange membrane on the electrochemical performance in MFC. Therefore, in this study, we have studied the effect of proton exchange membranes on the power density in MFC using newly synthesized hydrocarbon-based proton exchange membranes. |
