Interactions, Ordering, and Design for Self-Assembling Polymers |

Self assembly behavior can be found in a variety of ways to comprise materials and life forms in nature. A delicate balance in interactions of the molecules therein may cause such behavior. Using block copolymers, which are typical self-assembling man-made materials, we discuss how van der Waals and polar interactions yield ordering in the copolymers. In addition, the self-assembling behavior of block copolymers with rod block are also considered. It is commented how to design and control interactions in the copolymers in order to fabricate useful tailor-made nanomaterials for various applications. |
