Simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography was invented by UOP for petrochemical separations in the 1960s. SMB is a continuous separation process made of a series of chromatographic columns to mimic counter-current stream between stationary and mobile phase. In SMB system, feed mixture is separated more retained component at the extract port with following stationary phase and less retained component at the raffinate port with following mobile phase. In this study, comparison analysis was performed between two different isotherms, linear and competitive Langmuir, in four-zone SMB unit to understand the retention. |
