Characterization and Fabrication of MWNT-Poly (ε-caprolactone) Composite Nanofiber |

Multiwalled carbon nanotube/ε-caprolactone (MWNT-PCL) nanocomposites polymer were prepared by in situ polymerization with the aid of propylene glycol (PG) linker. Pre-synthesized carboxyl functionalized MWNT was esterified with PG and used as macroinitiator for ring opening polymerization (ROP) of caprolactone using stannous-octoate as a catalyst. Thus formed high molecular weight polymer was subjected for electrospinning and nonwoven mat was characterized as potential material for biodegradable scaffold. The polymer has been characterized as high molecular weight that continuously spins to form smooth nanofibers with average diameter 150 nm. Therefore, present research is focused on the fabrication of high molecular PCL-MWNT copolymer with the aid of PG linker. Thus formed composite polymer shows good spinability rendering the formation of smooth nanofiber with aligned MWNTs core. Further investigation on its hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation is under progress. |
