In this work, porous poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/Eudragit RS 100 (ERS-100) microcapsules containing tulobuterol-loaded silica nanotubes were prepared by a solvent evaporation method and the effect of the silica nanotubes on the release behaviors of the microcapsules was investigated. The microcapsules prepared with PCL/ERS-100 showed spherical and porous surface. Drug loading efficiency of the microcapsules was increased by the use of silica nanotubes. In an acidic release medium, PCL microcapsules showed slow drug release, whereas PCL/ERS-100 microcapsules showed a faster release rate with increasing ERS-100 content. Also, the use of the silica nanotubes as a adsorbent of the drug led to the sustained release behaviors of the microcapsules, which was attributed to an decrease in the diffusion rate of the drugs adsorbed into silica nanotubes. |
