The surface modification of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by grafting various polymer species has received much attention since application fields can be extended via this technique by reducing the agglomeration of nanotubes. Therefore, a variety of strategy has been proposed to prepare polymer-grafted nanotubes. In this study, MWCNTs were chemically modified to bear reactive carbon-carbon double bonds and these double bonds were directly used in surface-initiated in-situ polymerization of styrene. The evidences for the chemical modification of MWCNTs were sought using TGA, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, SEM, TEM, and XPS. |
