Printed Flexible Organic Thin Film Transistors Using Inkjet Printing and Vapor Deposition Polymerization. |

Highly conductive insoluble polymer, polypyrrole (PPy), was successfully investigated as source and drain electrodes for flexible pentacene thin film transistors in top-contact configuration by combining inkjet printing of initiator and vapor deposition polymerization. Facile inkjet printing of initiator and subsequent exposure of pyrrole monomers resulted in selective absorption and polymerization of pyrrole monomers on the patterned initiator region. Pentacene transistors based on printed PPy electrodes exhibited comparable electrical characteristics to the transistors based on thermally evaporated Au electrodes. The reduction of interfacial energy barrier and contact resistance of printed PPy electrodes might be attributed to the high performance of pentacene TFTs. Vapor deposition polymerization assisted inkjet printing technique can provide versatile method to utilize highly conductive polymer as a functional electrode of organic electronic devices. |
