Generally, polyurethane foam is widely used in many applications, such as insulation materials, automotive parts, and energy absorption. In this study, rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF) are successfully prepared from recycled polyols obtained by depolymerization of waste polyurethane foams including both refrigerator insulation foam (rigid polyurethane foam) and car seat foam (flexible polyurethane foam). The two types of waste polyurethane foams were depolymerized separately by using amino-alcoholysis, and the two phases obtained, corresponding to polyol rich phase and isocyante rich phase, were separated to prepare the recycled polyol. The physical properties of recycled polyols and RPUF prepared from recycled polyols were investigated and compared with those prepared from conventional polyol. It was found that not only thermal and mechanical properties but the insulation performance of PRUF prepared from recycled polyols are comparable or superior to the conventional RPUF. |
