Phase inversion is a simple process for preparing thin film for lithium ion battery separator. Phase inversion occurs due to a solubility difference between solvent and non-solvent. Various shapes and pore size are generated by changing the non-solvents. Here, we made lithium ion battery separator via phase inversion by using the following non-solvent. Water, methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol. Different sized ionic transport pathways were created due to solubility gap formed by coating poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) on non-woven substrate with solvents and non-solvents. This affected the performance of lithium ion battery . These PVdF-HFP coated porous separators had better cell performances (such as ion conductivity, C-rate, cycle performance) than commercialized polyethylene separators. Also thermally stable substrate showed maintained its shaped and did not degrade in high temperature than polyethylene separators. |
