Synthesis of titanium dioxide/bismuth vanadate (TiO2/BiVO4) hollow microspheres for high-performance photocatalysts |

In this study, titanium dioxide/bismuth vanadate (TiO2/BiVO4) hollow submicron spheres were fabricated by a facile templating method using hydrogel microspheres and confirmed their photocatalytic dye degradation ability. The amorphous metal oxides are formed inside and outside of the hydrogel microspheres by sol-gel reaction in the two-types of precursor solutions. After heat treatment under air atmosphere, the hollow structured TiO2/BiVO4 submicron spheres were finally obtained by decomposition of polymer phase and Ostwald ripening. The TiO2/BiVO4 hollow submicron spheres exhibit the enhanced photocatalytic degradation ability with visible light responsive photocatalysis due to the hollow structure and synergistic effect of two metal oxide semiconductors. |
