Nanocomposites consisting of polymers and inorganic nanoparticles have many potential applications, including solar cell, highly efficient catalysis and ferroelectrics. In this case, it is critical to control inorganic nanoparticles well-dispersed within polymeric matrix. To this, thiol-terminated polymers have been used to modify the surfaces of nanoparticle such as Au, Pt, CdSe. However, it is well known that the interaction between the metal and the thiol group becomes unstable with increasing temperatures. For example, heating the Au particles (>80 oC) leads to the aggregates due to the dissociation of Au stabilizers. To enhance the thermal stability, we modified Au NPs surface using UV-crosslinkable polymeric stabilizers. After UV-crosslinking of Au NPs, it was found that the Au NPs exhibit remarkably good stability at high temperature in both solution and thin-film state. The detailed characteristics of the Au NPs have been investigated by TEM, UV-vis spectrometer, and TGA. |
