Polymeric membranes are widely used for water treatment including wastewater purification, filtration and desalination. However, fouling is a major challenge to achieving energy-efficient, cost-effective membrane processes. Here polysulfone based random copolymers containing poly(ethylene oxide) segments were used as membrane materials, fabricated into ultrafiltration membranes via phase inversion technique. PEO segments were self-arranged on the surface during phase inversion process and increased wettablity of membrane surface. These membranes exhibit remarkable and persistent tolerance to fouling toward proteins and emulsified oil. |
