Liquid crystalline epoxies (LCEs) have been focused as thermoset resins with high thermal conductivity. In this work, we synthesized novel LCE series by introducing phenylcyclohexyl (PCH) mesogenic moieties and alkyl spacer groups into diglycidyl terephthalate. Mesomorphic properties of LCE was evaluated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The LCE showed an enantiotropic phase transition on heating and cooling procedures and a fan-shape texture characteristic of smectic (Sx) phase. In the poster section, we will discuss more detailed synthetic methods, characterization of liquid crystallinity of LCE and novel thermal properties of cured LCE. |
