Multifaceted thermoresponsive carbon dot: protein sensors, intracellular thermometer and bioimaging. |

Herein, we report a new strategy to develop a novel fluorescent thermo responsive polymer/ carbon dot composite in terms of strategy that carboxyl terminated poly (N-vinyl caprolactam) (PVCL-COOH) acts as temperature responsive unit and the C dot is the fluorescent unit. The successfully synthesized hydrophilic PVCL-C dot composites were characterized by 1H NMR, DLS and UV-vis spectra. The variation of fluorescence intensity with temperature was studied. With increasing temperature the PVCL chains shrinks which could also embed some parts of C dot thus resulting in decreased fluorescence intensity. PVCL-C dot showed a significant fluorescence turn-on response to positively charged protein above LCST. Furthermore, the biocompatible PVCL-C dot has been demonstrated as thermometer for sensing intracellular temperature of cells and also in bioimaging. Thus, PVCL-C dot with many advantages is expected to be a novel material with full of promise for biomedical applications. |
