Investigation of kinetic parameters as tracing the thermal decomposition of polymers has provided sufficient understanding on thermal degradation or reformation of polymers from TGA. For thermal degradation kinetic study, Ozawa’s method is widely used. By adapting this concept to the conversion mechanism, we can optimize the thermal treatment condition for thermally rearranged (TR) polymer where chain rearrangement by releasing two moles of carbon dioxide at 350-450˚C. The different morphology of polymer structures result in shifting of decarboxylation region in between 10 to 20% of weight change. As flexibility of polymer chain increases, required treatment energy and time is expected to decrease. |
