제목 One-step Conversion of Xylose into Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol over Ruthenium on Beta Zeolite Catalyst
초록 Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) which is well-known as green industrial solvent and important intermediates to produce 1,5-pentanediol. Direct conversion of xylose into THFA was investigated in the presence of multifunctional β-zeolite-supported Ruthenium (Ru/Hβ) catalyst. Consecutive reaction of xylose dehydration and furfural hydrogenation into THFA were examined over the Ru/Hβ catalyst in one-pot reaction system with tetrahydrofuran (THF) as a solvent. The utilization of THF stabilized the necessary intermediates as well as the stability of Ru/Hβ catalyst. Best catalyst performance was found at 3 wt% Ru loaded on Hβ support at 180 °C for 1 h reaction time under 3 MPa H2, which resulted in 42.85% yield of THFA. The presence of multiple active sites including Bronsted acidity for xylose dehydration as well as Ru0 [101] for furfural-intermediate hydrogenation into THFA were characterized by NH3-TPD, XRD and XPS.
